Absorbing, Penetrating & Flexible

  • Developed to absorb and penetrate into the timber remaining pliable and flexible
  • Matching the movement of the timber.
  • Will not solidify, crack or peel on the surface
  • Sealing in the natural oils and tannins on and below the surface.

Solid Membrane Coatings

  • These include Water based, urethanes, resin varnishes and timber oils.
  • These types of coatings leave a Solid inflexible Membrane on the top surface
  • With the movement of the timber it will solidify crack and peel.

No Drying Agents

  • Deck Doc oils have no drying agents and will never form a solid inflexible membrane coating on the surface.
  • Deck Doc oils remain in a pliable state, moving with the timber forming a flexible coating on and below the surface.
  • Deck Doc’s unique technology locks in the natural oils and tannins of the timber thereby retaining the natural beauty and colour.
  • Deck Doc oils penetrate the timber protecting it from damaging moisture and preventing cracking and warping.

The Paint Brush Test: A paint brush dipped in Deck Doc oil and left unclean  will remain in a soft pliable state indefinitely. Note:  A similar test with Solid membrane coatings, the brush bristles will set rock hard

Contains Drying Agents

  • These coatings are based on paint technology
  • They contain drying agents leaving a solid inflexible membrane coating on the surface
  • Solid membrane coatings include water based, urethanes, resin varnishes and timber oils
  • Timber is like a sponge and absorbs moisture causing timber to swell and shrink during wet dry cycles
  • Solid membrane coatings adhere to the surface and due to the movement of the timber form minuet cracks and become porous.
  • With the continuous swelling and shrinking of the timber the cracking becomes increasingly worse.
  • Increased moisture absorption will cause the timber to crack and warp and lose its natural oils and tannins
  • Despite advertising claims of deep penetration capabilities there is insufficient time for these products to penetrate into the surface.
  • Rapid drying and solidifying occurs preventing absorption into the timber and forming a solid inflexible paint like membrane on the surface.

No Weathering Required

  • Deck Doc’s technology is to retain the timbers natural oils and tannins
  • The oils and tannins are the natural preservatives and determines the natural colour of the timber
  • Locking in and sealing the oils and tannins preserves the timbers structure from warping and cracking
  • All timber types bleed tannins and if left to weather the timber will leach out the tannins and lose its natural colour.

Weathering Required

  • Weathering is required before the application of water based and urethane based coatings.
  • Weathering is intended to leach out the natural oils and tannins from the timber in order
  • to prepare the surface for these coatings to adhere to.
  • Most products specify weathering time for up to 6 months, depending on timber types.
  • Modern water based and other coatings will not adhere to natural oily and waxy timbers.
  • Weathering causes tannin loss resulting in colour loss, cupping, warping and cracking.

No Colour Pigment

  • No colour pigments are added to Deck Doc natural oils
  • The timbers natural colour is being retained by sealing in the timbers oils and tannins
  • It is inconceivable to destroy the beautiful natural colour of expensive timber by leaching out the natural tannins and replacing it with artificial colour pigments.

Colour Pigment

Most conventional coatings contain colour pigments derived from paint technology. As a consequence of weathering and leaching out the natural tannins, results in total loss of natural colour.  To overcome this artificial colour is added in an attempt to replicate the natural colour of the timber.  Unfortunately, the end result is totally unnatural and artificial.   It does not make sense to destroy the beautiful natural colour of expensive timber by leaching out the natural tannins and replacing it with artificial colour pigments.

No Sanding Required

  • Simply clean off built up dust and dirt and re oil.
  • Anything left exposed to the weather including decks will attract dust and dirt and be baked on by the sun.
  • For lightly soiled decks use Deck Doc Revive.
  • This is a simple spray on, wipe off procedure to clean and restore the original colour
  • For heavy built up dirt clean use Deck Doc Timber Cleaner to remove all stubborn dirt.
  • Repeat a light re oil to bring back the original natural colour
  • It is necessary to clean timber decks periodically
  • Deck Doc’s unique flexible coating repels moisture, prevents tannin loss, warping and cracking.

Sanding Required

  • Over time solid membrane coatings breakdown, crack and peel and become patchy.
  • This leaves the timber exposed and unprotected and will cause cracking, cupping and warping.
  • Mostly the timber requires sanding before any type of re application.
  • Preparation for sanding can be labour intensive and coupled with sanding costly.
