How To Apply

Make sure the surface of your timber deck is clean and dry and free from old finishes. For best results, use Deck Doc Timber Cleaner before applying. Apply in dry, sunny weather between 15°C and 29°C. Avoid applying in direct, intense sunlight or on wet timber. Approximately 1 Litre covers 12–15 m², depending on timber density, moisture content, and surface roughness.

Step 1 - Shake Well. Shake the bottle thoroughly before opening and using.

Step 2 - Apply Light Coats. Use an applicator like our Applicator Kit to apply a light, even coat. Remember, less is more. Avoid applying too much oil at once, the timber can only absorb a limited amount.

Step 3 - Work Methodically. Work the oil evenly across the surface, both lengthwise and across the grain. Focus on small sections at a time to ensure full coverage.

Step 4 - Remove Excess. Wipe off any oil that hasn’t been absorbed into the timber to prevent sticky residue.

Aftercare

In most cases, you don't need extra coats unless your timber is very weathered. Always make sure the first coat is completely dry before reapplying. Deck Doc Premium Decking Oil is designed to work with raw or previously oiled timber only never use it on surfaces that have been sealed with solid coatings. If you’re unsure, test a small patch first to check that the timber absorbs the oil properly.

Feed it when it needs it! Reapply coats for added protection or to refresh it. To check if the timber is still protected, simply see if water still beads off the timber. If it does, it’s still well-protected. For best long-term results, we recommend giving your timber a refresh once a year: clean it down with Deck Doc Timber Cleaner and apply a light coat of oil to keep it looking great and protected from the elements.
