What's The Deck Doc Difference?
When it comes to timber care, not all coatings are created equal. Many products on the market rely on conventional paint-based technology, which may look good initially but can harm your timber in the long run. Deck Doc Timber Coatings offer a smarter, more sustainable solution using unique lanolin-based technology that works with your timber, not against it.
Let’s dive into the differences that set Deck Doc apart from the rest.

LANOLIN
Deck Doc is a lanolin (sheep wool grease) based timber protection oil unique to conventional commercial products. When applied to timber the coating will penetrate into the surface and dry naturally without solidifying to a hard ridged coating. This unique feature allows the coating to match the movement of the timber providing an effective barrier which repels moisture.

Coatings
Deck Doc penetrates deep into the timber, remaining pliable and moving with the natural expansion and contraction of the wood. It won't crack, peel, or blister. Solid membrane coatings, like varnishes and urethanes, dry to a hard, inflexible layer that cracks and peels with weather cycles — leaving timber exposed and vulnerable.

Drying
Traditional coatings contain drying agents leaving a solid inflexible membrane coating on the surface. Timber absorbs moisture causing timber to swell and shrink during wet dry cycles. Due to the movement solid membrane coatings form cracks.
Deck Doc timber oils have no drying agents and will never form a solid coating on the surface. Instead, they penetrate the timber and form a flexible coating protecting it from damaging moisture and preventing cracking and warping.

Weathering
Weathering is required before the application of traditional water based and urethane based coatings so these coatings can adhere to the timber surface. However, this causes tannin loss resulting in colour loss, cupping, warping and cracking.
Deck Doc’s technology is designed so timber can retain its natural oils and tannins which act as natural preservatives. Locking in and sealing the oils and tannins preserves the timbers structure from warping and cracking.

COLOUR
Most conventional coatings contain artificial colour pigments to overcome or replace the loss of natural colour as a consequence of weathering. The end result is totally unnatural and artificial.
No colour pigments are added to Deck Doc timber oils. At Deck Doc we do not believe in destroying the beautiful natural colour of expensive timber by leaching out the natural tannins and replacing it with artificial colour pigments.

SANDING
Traditional solid membrane coatings breakdown, crack, peel and become patchy leaving the timber exposed and unprotected. Timber then requires sanding before any type of reapplication which can be labour intensive and costly.
At Deck Doc you can simply clean off built up dust and dirt and re oil. Deck Doc’s unique flexible coating repels moisture, prevents tannin loss, warping and cracking.

Deck Doc offers a complete timber care solution designed to protect and preserve your timber naturally and effectively. It works with your timber to seal in natural oils and tannins protecting and retaining the natural colour of the timber indefinitely.
